Controls

Presets

Passive filters shape a signal's frequency content with resistors, capacitors, and inductors. An RC low-pass or high-pass has a cutoff at 1/(2πRC) where the response drops 3 dB; an RLC bandpass resonates at 1/(2π√(LC)) with sharpness set by its quality factor Q.

▶ Run in Python

Data Inspector

Cutoff fc1.6 kHz
Resonance f₀5.0 kHz
Quality factor Q0.32

Governing equation

Reading this result: Low-pass: signals below the 1.6 kHz corner pass, above it they roll off at 20 dB/decade, and the response is exactly 3 dB down right at the corner.

Transmission Line

Transmission Line & VSWRLive

Controls

Presets

When a transmission line meets a load that does not match its impedance, part of the wave reflects. Incident and reflected waves combine into a standing-wave pattern measured by the VSWR. A perfect match (RL = Z₀, XL = 0) gives VSWR 1 and no reflection — the goal of every antenna and RF design.

▶ Run in Python

Data Inspector

Reflection |Γ|0.200
VSWR1.50 : 1
Return loss14.0 dB
Matchpoor

Governing equation

Reading this result: A large resistive mismatch reflects much of the wave, giving a high VSWR and deep nulls in the standing-wave pattern.

Radio Range / Link BudgetLive
Estimated usable range
9.7mi

Controls

Presets

Combines the radio horizon (1.23·(√h₁+√h₂), feet→miles) with a free-space link budget (EIRP minus path loss vs receiver sensitivity). Actual range depends on terrain, foliage, and buildings — treat this as a best-case planning estimate.

▶ Run in Python

Data Inspector

Radio horizon9.7 mi
Link budget147 dB
Limited byline-of-sight

Governing equation

Reading this result: Range is capped by the horizon at 9.7 mi — raising the base antenna helps more than adding power here.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RF Front End multi-solver?
RF Front End is a guided workflow that chains 3 individual PolySim solvers into one end-to-end analysis, piping each result into the next step.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Every step runs entirely in your browser using real numerics — no install, no account, no cloud cost. Custom or private solver packs are available as a paid service.
