Controls

Every warm object glows with a Planck spectrum. Heat it up and the peak shifts to shorter (bluer) wavelengths — that's why stars range from red to blue-white.

Presets

▶ Run in Python

Data Inspector

Temperature5778 K
Peak wavelength502 nm
Colorwhite/yellow

Governing equation

Reading this result: At 5778 K the Planck curve peaks at 502 nm, inside the visible band — Wien's law makes peak wavelength ∝ 1/T, so doubling the temperature halves the peak wavelength and shifts the glow toward blue.

Controls

Solving the Schrödinger equation for hydrogen gives the orbitals — the probability clouds where an electron is likely to be found. The quantum numbers n, l, and m set the size, shape, and orientation. Brighter regions are higher probability density.

Orbital2p_z
Quantum numbersn=2, l=1, m=0
Energy-3.40 eV
Nodes0 radial, 1 angular

Governing equation

Reading this result: n=2 sets the shell and energy (E = -3.40 eV) and the overall size of the cloud. l=1 sets the shape: two lobes (p). m=0 sets the orientation in space. This orbital has 0 radial nodes and 1 angular node.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Spectroscopy Kit multi-solver?
Spectroscopy Kit is a guided workflow that chains 2 individual PolySim solvers into one end-to-end analysis, piping each result into the next step.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Every step runs entirely in your browser using real numerics — no install, no account, no cloud cost. Custom or private solver packs are available as a paid service.
